I'm super excited to share that I've created a workshops series on Self Care & Injury Prevention. We'll look at the whole body over 7 weeks, including a basic guide to the anatomy of the area, talking about common injuries in each region, stretching and strengthening, and self treatment. As a Myotherapist, a big part of my job is to help patients better understand their injury and form a self care plan to take home that supports our in-clinic treatment plan.
The workshops are free and start on May 6th, and run for just an hour each Saturday morning at 9:30am til July 1st. If you experience pain anywhere in your body, I would love to see you at one (or more!) of these workshops to give you some of my favourite self care strategies and to answer any questions you have about injury prevention and corrective exercise. Make a booking to come along, the workshops are being held at the Simple Wellness Myotherapy clinic in Berwick - upstairs, at BFirm PT 27 Enterprise Avenue. I just got back from working my first retreat with my awesome friend and incredible Shiatsu therapist Valeria Paz from Vida Sana Shiatsu. We were lucky enough to be invited to provide treatments at the SIBA Retreat Centre - a Buddhist retreat centre in East Gippsland run by the Tibetan Buddhist Society of Canberra. SIBA run an annual Health & Wellbeing Retreat at Easter time, and its not limited to just Buddhists! The retreat is a really restorative, nourishing mix of yoga, meditation, natural therapies, healthy vegetarian food, and 108 acres of calm, relaxing scenery. I had the pleasure of providing 17 remedial massage treatments and 2 workshops over the 4 days of the Easter long weekend. I even had my very own massage hut, with an electric table and views to the chickens and into the trees. I discovered that I really enjoyed teaching workshops! The first workshop I ran was an Introduction to Trigger Points and How to Release Them. We looked at common referred pain patterns from the back, neck and shoulders, as well as getting familiar with the muscles of these areas and what they do, and how they work together, and then I taught basic self trigger point release techniques. An hour and a half goes by very quickly when you're having fun! The second workshop was a kind of East Meets West style - where Valeria and I did a combined workshop that taught some basic Shiatsu techniques on the Pericardium meridian which runs from the chest down the arm to the hands, some anatomy and physiology of the area, and then teaching a basic hand massage sequence. I really hope for an invitation to come back again next year, I had the best time!
Easter is nearly here, and I have exciting news!
I've been invited to provide treatments at a retreat this Easter! The retreat centre is a 5 hour drive into East Gippsland, so I will be closed from Thursday April 13th, and back to normal business hours on Tuesday April 18th. Do you want to get in before I go away? Book an appointment online now! |
